Discover the beginnings of the tourism industry of Lake Tahoe at The Gatekeeper's Museum. This is the reconstruction of the original Gatekeeper's Cabin – home of the water master who controlled the flow of water out of Lake Tahoe. It now showcases Tahoe history, from its Native inhabitants through the logging era and the start of the tourism industry at Lake Tahoe. Exhibits include Native American baskets, resort memorabilia, historical photographs, clothing, oral histories, maps, archival documents, newspapers and artifacts.

The Maritime Museum is located on the west shore of Lake Tahoe. Complimenting the 25 vessels and the largest collection of outboard motors on the west coast, the exterior of the new building is reminiscent of an old Tahoe boathouse. Inside, visitors can easily view the boats, motors and nautical memorabilia. There are also hands-on activities for children to help them better understand the maritime history and the significance it played at Lake Tahoe.
The Nevada Northern Railway Museum is a fully functioning railroad and includes activities like restoration and operation of historic railroad equipment, hand car races, lectures, an annual railroad history symposium, changing exhibits, and a variety of special events. Truly a fun-filled and enriching experience for everyone.
